Madrid, Spain - Letter to Dad, 04/08/2004

I arrived yesterday after a lon--g flight. Yesterday was warm and sunny, unfortunately today is a litter colder. At least it is still sunny.

We took a bus tour of the city this morning. It was okay, but we could not get off and go in any of the sites because of the holiday. Their Easter weekend starts today, so nothing is open except restaurants. That´s okay, it will give us a chance to catch up on our sleep this afternoon.

There are several processions, ie parades, tonight celebrating Christ´s ride into Jerusalem. We plan on attending at least one. Two are at 7, then one is later.

Last night we saw a flamenco show. We got several pictures and I took a few videos. I got paella to eat at the restaurant and when I asked what was in it, I thought there was a choice of seafood or chicken, when in fact the server said it was seafood AND chicken. So I got cooked shrimp served with the legs and head, including eyes, still attached. I didn´t mind the taste, but I hated the work it took to get the meat out, especially how messy my hands got [you know me and messy hands]. I also ate some calamari, which I did not particularly care for. There was mussels, but I decided to skip that. Pretty much everywhere we go, the menu is primarily seafood, even in landlocked Madrid..

Tomorrow [Friday] we leave for the island. Jenny showed me pictures from when she was there before, it looks beautiful.
